HRH The Earl of Wessex visits Hertfordshire

Category : Events

On 9th March HRH The Earl of Wessex (now The Duke of Edinburgh) visited Hertfordshire and was accompanied by The Lord-Lieutenant to three venues.

At Propstore in Chorleywood he spent time viewing many of the amazing original props from a large number of blockbuster films. He was especially interested in some of the spacesuits as well as props from the Harry Potter, Star Wars and James Bond series of films.

He then went to Ashridge House to plant an oak tree in memory of his parents-The Queen and Prince Philip-in the garden next to a tree planted 200 years earlier by Queen Victoria before meeting a number of Dule of Edinburgh award entrants from Berkhamsted School and having Happy Birthday sung to him by the pupils of Little Gaddesden Primary School. After a discussion over lunch, he went to Sky Studios in Borehamwood and after spending time on the set opened the new studio 5 and speak to a number of voluntary organisations associated with the studios.

No one knew that less than 24 hours later-on HRH’s birthday-he would become the Duke of Edinburgh…!
