The Lieutenancy are delighted to offer presentations to Primary and Secondary schools focusing on the role of the Monarchy and Lieutenancy as well as the Commonwealth, Citizenship and British Values. The visits are free of charge and provide an opportunity for students to engage with issues relevant to them as British Citizens.
Primary Schools
Presentations are aimed at Year 6 pupils and typically last 90 minutes, although the material can be adapted within reason to fit the school timetable. Sessions are very interactive, covering the role of the Monarchy and Lieutenancy, the Commonwealth and Commonwealth and British Values. There are two small group sessions as part of the presentation, one focusing on the Commonwealth and the other based around planning a Royal Visit. Pupils are encouraged to consider the importance of the Commonwealth Values, how these relate to British Values, and the responsibility we all have to uphold these.
Secondary Schools
Presentations are aimed at Sixth Form students and last between 45 and 60 minutes. The content covers, in broad terms, the Constitutional Monarchy, the importance of Values in society, including British Values, Citizenship and the work of the Royal Family and Lieutenancy. Students are challenged to think about the benefits and responsibilities of British Citizenship as well as the contribution made by the voluntary sector.
Any schools that would like to invite a member of the Lieutenancy schools’ team to visit should in the first instance contact: Lieutenancy.Office@hertfordshire.gov.uk
