Duke of Edinburgh Award and the Hertfordshire Lieutenancy

The Duke of Edinburgh Award is a voluntary development programme for young people aged 14-24. It aims to build confidence, resilience and skills through volunteering, physical activity and an expedition. The award has three levels – Bronze, Silver and Gold. The programme has wider educational benefits and contributes towards a school’s enrichment and wider curricular offer.

The Award programme was set up by HRH Prince Philip, the late Duke of Edinburgh, in 1956. The Hertfordshire Lieutenancy is keen to promote the Award in schools and other community groups and to celebrate the achievement of young people who attain the various levels. Many schools offer a celebration assembly or evening to which parents and carers are invited. The Lord-Lieutenant represents His Majesty the King in Hertfordshire and he would be delighted to attend such events recognising achievement through this Royal initiative. Invitations to attend should be emailed to: Lieutenancy.Office@hertfordshire.gov.uk

For schools that don’t yet offer the Award, full information can be found via the link below
