DJ & MC Academy Showcase at Wormley Community Centre
On 16th October 2024, Karen Trew DL attended the DJ & MC Academy Showcase event at Wormley Community Centre, spotlighting the incredible talents of our local youth. After the performances, Karen and Sheniece Charway, Head of Black Music & Culture at YouTube, answered the young people’s questions about the music industry, motivation and planning for success. What a wonderful event and so much to celebrate!
This event was the culmination of weeks of dedication, growth, and creativity. The goal with this project was to create a space where hard-to-reach young people could express themselves through music, gain new skills, and build confidence. The Academy has not only helped them discover hidden talents but has also served as a platform to improve literacy and earn qualifications, setting them on a path toward future opportunities.
Thanks to Broxbourne Big Local for organising this event as part of celebrating Black History Month, emphasising the importance of cultural awareness and empowerment and thanks to their partners and supporters, including Krissy Sims DJ and MC Academy (CEO) and Sheyda Monshizadeh-Azar (Public Affairs Manager, Google Data Centres) for making this possible.
