Stevenage World Forum – Celebrate!!! 2019
On 19th October Kate Belinis DL had a wonderful time with the audience at Celebrate!!! 2019 show held at the Gordon Craig Theatre, Stevenage.
Celebrate!!! is Stevenage’s multi-cultural showcase bringing together the diversity of international culture in Stevenage to promote unity by sharing experience, knowledge and skills.
The key aims of Celebrate:
- To forge strong bonds between cultures
- To break down the barriers of discrimination and build bridges
- To share skills and knowledge within the community
- To raise awareness of ethnicity and diversity through arts and leisure activities
- To build and develop community capacity
Stevenage World Forum’s annual multicultural show celebrated the Black History Month, attracting performers from diverse backgrounds and cultures. There were a variety of acts celebrating the history and diversity including young Irish, Philippines, Caribbean and African dancers, young people with physical and learning disabilities, a choir, a solo folk singer, a poet, gospel choir and so much more.
The show was the dream of Sherma Batson MBE, DL who sadly passed away in early 2017. Her legacy lives on with local people, all volunteers, determined to put on the show for one night only.
The first photo shows Sherma’s Mum in red on the right and Sherma’s husband immediately on her right, who continue to be avid supporters of the event. The second photo shows Celebrate!!! team lead Cllr Michelle Gardner, and the last photo is of the team members.
