Hertfordshire’s Book of Remembrance for
Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II

Whilst this is not a shock in many ways there is a now very strange atmosphere in the UK, obviously something we’ve never seen before with the death of a Monarch. I am not sure it has sunk in yet as for all of us (unless your 97+) have always had the Queen in our lives since we were born. Many, elsewhere in the world, will not understand the depth of feeling and the sudden dark cloud over our country and the weird silence there is, it is like everyone (all 65 M of us) have turned down the volume. Everything has stopped. No sporting events, no TV, no radio. Everything is focused on our great Queen Elizabeth and I’m sure it will switch a bit towards Prince Charles as he starts to take on the reins. We now have a period of mourning before the funeral. Now and over the next few days the focus will be on the detail for a huge event of this nature which will as always be well planned funeral. The list of invitees to attend will probably be the greatest collection of world leaders and important people, with a smattering of the rich and famous, gather in one place perhaps since Churchill died. Whilst I admit am a royalist and loved our Queen, I’m also surprised how emotional I feel about it. I defiantly have shed a tear or two on a couple of occasions. We are all so glad we had the chance to celebrate the Jubilee this past summer when we had 4 days of celebration and events for her and to see her enjoy all of this was fantastic. Buckingham Palace, Windsor Castle & Balmoral are all quickly becoming the shrines the public are visiting and they are stating to become a sea of flowers. I will visit to Buckingham Palace this week to share my condolences and thoughts. I can best describe my feelings and sentiment by what I heard from one lady on the television yesterday outside Windsor Castle “it’s like the nation has lost his grandmother”.
