Broxbourne ‘Crucial Crew’ child safety event

Category : Events

On Monday 20th October, Karen Trew DL attended the sixth and final day of the Broxbourne “Crucial Crew” child safety event at Cheshunt Football Club.

This VIP event was also attended by the Mayor of Broxbourne, Cllr Patsy Spears, and dignitaries from Broxbourne Borough Council, Hertfordshire Constabulary, Lee Valley Regional Park Authority, Public Health and School Nursing.

Over 900 Year 6 children from 22 local primary schools from across Broxbourne took part in a series of interactive safety workshops over the six days.

The “Crucial Crew” scheme, coordinated by Child Safety Media and sponsored by Broxbourne Borough Council, teaches children about important issues such as personal safety, internet safety, staying safe online, water safety, safety on the railways and the dangers/consequences of criminal damage, promoting health and wellbeing, being more informed about vaping/e-cigarettes and their potential harm, and first aid and CPR.

The five workshops were delivered by the following local safety agencies: Hertfordshire Constabulary, Lee Valley Regional Park Authority, British Transport Police, School Nurses and East of England Ambulance Service.

It was great to see the return of this event to the Borough after seven years and hosted at a new venue. Thanks to the Child Safety Media for coordinating this event, to Broxbourne Borough Council for sponsoring it and Cheshunt Football Club for hosting. This was a fabulous event where the children participated actively and could answer all the quiz questions at the end of the session!
