QAVS 2019 Nominees Reception at County Hall
The Chairman of Hertfordshire County Council invited volunteers from each organisation nominated for a Queen’s Award for Voluntary Service to attend a Reception at County Hall on Tuesday 9th April 2019. The Vice-Chair William Wyatt-Lowe represented the Chairman.
The event was fairly informal with an opportunity for volunteers to speak with other groups who had also been nominated. The Nominees are:
Irish Network Stevenage
They support the older and most vulnerable members of our community. The volunteers do over 700 home visits a year and 300 calls each year to the old and frail, they also run weekly events including social afternoons, exercise and IT classes, Men’s club and Film club.
Multi-Cultural Community Centre, Watford
Since 1985, the MCCC, at the heart of Watford, has been bringing together the different communities of Watford. The town is a diverse Borough, with 37% minority ethnic representation in places. The MCCC offers facilities and events to bring together different ethnic and religious interests, increasing harmony and understanding.
St Albans and District Talking Newspaper
The group provides a service, through recorded local articles and interviews to keep those with limited or no vision, up to date with current affairs. Stroke sufferers who may not be able to hold written material can now also participate.
Stevenage Furniture Recycling Scheme
Stevenage Furniture Recycling scheme redistributes furniture and large electrical items to residents of Stevenage who are financially disadvantaged or in conditions of need. SFRS is the only scheme in Stevenage offering its service in an efficient, cheerful and compassionate manner and where items are provided without charge where proven necessary.
The Hospice of St Francis
The Hospice of St Francis has an impact on the lives of local people who are facing the most challenging of times. Volunteers play a huge part, giving time and a great diversity of expertise across the charity. It’s an impressive partnership, delivering the very best experience.
