Old People’s Activity Learning and Safety Event in Ware

Category : Events

Mark Bretton MBE TD DL represented the Lord Lieutenant at an OPALS (Old People’s Activity Learning and Safety) event at Wodson Park, Ware, on 25th November. There was a tremendous turnout, with 80 senior citizens attending, with 68 completing a feedback questionnaire, which resulted in resounding positive comments, with over 25 market stallholders promoting the services they offer, and the eight key speakers certainly delivered a unique experience for all attendees.

The attendees received practical advice ranging from dealing with threats from cyber/scam security, first aid, and Citizen’s Advice to health and wellbeing, as well as an opportunity to have a sociable free lunch. The
event was organised by Terry Morris, OPALS Event Co-Ordinator for Hertfordshire County Council and was one of a series he runs during the year across the County with the aim to help local senior citizens become more
aware of the services available to them from across the various organisations including many run by volunteers.

Mark took the opportunity to thank Terry and all the organisers before meeting many of the stall holders and senior citizens attending.
