Reception for Hertfordshire’s Tokyo Olympians at County Hall
The Lord-Lieutenant presented certificates to 5 Hertfordshire Tokyo Paralympians and one Olympian at County Hall on 27th September. The Olympian was rower Rowan McKellar (daughter of the Vice-Chancellor of the University of Hertfordshire) who just missed out on a bronze medal in Tokyo;
The Paralympians were:
Jonathan Coggan-Wheelchair Rugby Gold Medal-from Hertford
Chris Ryan-Wheelchair Rugby captain-Gold Medal-Welwyn
Louise Fiddes-Swimming breast stroke-silver and bronze -Welwyn
Grace Harvey-Swimming-Silver-Ware
Jess Streeton-Archery
Other Hertfordshire athletes from Tokyo who were unable to attend were mentioned and applauded.
He also met Dave Clarke-the most successful blind footballer who played in several Paralympics during his 17-year career.
They were all interviewed by Deputy Lieutenant Stuart Storey-himself an Olympian in 1968 and the BBC voice of athletics for many years.
The High Sheriff-Lionel Wallace DL as well as the Chair, Vice-Chair and Leader of Hertfordshire County Council were also present.
