YOPEY Befriender Awards
On 31 October, Marion Brown MBE JP DL, visited The Greenbanks Home in Watford, where a group of 14-15 year old girls from Watford Grammar School were being trained to relate to elderly people with dementia.
After the training, the young people spent time mingling with the residents. Marion Brown presented each girl with a Befriender badge and was able to chat to them about what they had learned. Mrs Brown said ‘It was lovely to see so many of the girls engaging so well.’
From my observations they had all overcome their apprehensions and seemed to really enjoy the experience. Hopefully, they will be able to supply the skills they have learned in a variety of situations and perhaps some of them may also get involved in such initiatives on a long-term basis.
On 7 November, Marion Brown MBE JP DL attended the second of the YOPEY Befriender Events at Greenbanks Care Home in Watford.
The photographs show Mrs Brown with some of the girls from Watford Grammar School for Girls. A third event is due to be held at Greenbanks on 5 December.
