Royston Commemorative Service for VE Day
Dr Deborah Taverner DL attended the Royston Commemorative Service for VE Day on 10th May .
The Royston VE Day Commemorative Service was organised by Chris Murphy, the Chairman of the Royston Branch of the Royal British Legion. The service was attended by Dr Deborah Taverner DL , Terry Douris, the Chairman of Herts County Council, Col Gareth Boyd the Commanding Officer of MRTC Bassingbourn and the Town Mayor, Councillor John Rees.
The service was conducted by Revd Dr Steven Sivyer, Vicar of Royston at the Parish Church of St John the Baptist. The service was a combination of remembrance and celebration of peace. There was a moving part of the service where the men of Royston who died in WWII were remembered by the lighting of candles by Army and Air Force Cadets with photographs of the men and their age projected on to a screen. It was a fitting tribute.
