Official Opening of the Hoddesdon Annual Charter Fair
On 4th October 2025, Karen Trew DL attended the official opening of the two-day Hoddesdon Charter Fair with the Mayor of Broxbourne, Cllr Patsy Spears.
The charter to hold an annual fair and weekly markets in Hoddesdon was granted by King Henry III in the year 1253. Since 2010, Love Hoddesdon have celebrated the Charter by presenting a selection of vintage and traditional family attractions in addition to street entertainment.
Thank you to Love Hoddesdon for organising this event; to the members of The Showmen’s Guild of Great Britain who set up and manned the traditional funfair rides and stalls and made everyone so welcome; to Revd Mark Escott of St Catherine’s and St Paul’s Church for his blessing and support; and to the new proprietors of The Swan for providing some wonderful refreshments.
This is a fabulous event that is well attended and supported by the community of Hoddesdon and the surrounding areas.
