Burns Night Celebrations 2026

Deputy Lieutenant Kate Belinis was delighted to represent the Lord-Lieutenant at the Burns Night celebration on Saturday, 24 January 2026.
The evening was opened with The Selkirk Grace:
Some Hae Meat and Canna Eat,
And some wad eat that want it,
But we hae meat and we can eat,
Sae let the Lord be thankit!
The Chair and Deputy Chair of Herts County Council, the Chairman of East Herts District Council and the Mayor of Broxbourne were also present. Many guests wore the family or clan tartan and some wore borrowed tartan from friends.
The haggis was “piped” in, but not by a piper, but the alternative violin.
After dinner there was dancing with the Lairds. Singing Auld Langs Syne brought the evening to a close.
