Stevenage VJ Day 80 Service
on 15th August 2025, Dr Sally Burton DL attended the VJ Day service in Stevenage Old Town for a wreath-laying ceremony.
Victory over Japan Day (VJ Day) marks the final end to the Second World War. It is commemorated on 15 August, the date in 1945 when Japan surrendered, bringing over six years of global conflict to a close. Earlier that year, Victory in Europe Day (VE Day) was celebrated on 8 May, marking the end of the war in Europe following Germany’s surrender. However, fighting continued in the Far East, where conditions were harsh and the challenges extremely tough.
VJ Day honours the courage, sacrifice, and resilience of those who served and endured in these final, difficult months of the war. A time to remember all who contributed to the victory, to reflect on the cost of the freedoms we enjoy today, and to ensure that the stories of those who lived through the war are never forgotten.
We will remember them
