80th Anniversary of VJ Day in Bishops Stortford

Emma Robarts DL attended a moving commemoration service for the “Forgotten Army” on 15th August 2025, the 80th Anniversary of VJ Day (Victory in Japan and the end of World War II). This took place at 11am at the War Memorial, Castle Park, Bishop’s Stortford.

Royal British Legion President John Robinson and Padré The Revd Tim Weeks presided, with readings from the Silver Leys Scouts. Wreaths were laid by Emma Robarts DL, Councillor Laurence Brass (Chair of Hertfordshire County Council), Councillor Richard Townsend (Mayor of Bishops Stortford) and others.

For your tomorrow we gave our today.” (The Kohima Epitaph)

The Battle of Kohima was a crucial turning point in the Burma Campaign of 1944.
